A report recently put out by the Ontario Power Authority has indicated that the average Ontario resident used over 4.6% less electricity in 2007 than they used in 2005. Great savings.
It is a very positive sign that attitudes in Canada are rapidly changing towards energy conservation. A move that will likely accelerate in the face of high electricity and gas prices.
The Authority said that rising energy prices will continue to make electricity conservation more prevalent.
Gas prices are going up as well, more people are buying smaller, fuel efficient cars. They think energy prices will probably continue to go up demand continues to increase, which will fuel more electricity conservation and consumers looking for ways to save electricity
For people hoping and looking for ways to save energy, and of course money, this summer, it is recommended they shutter all blinds and windows during the day to keep the sun and heat out. And open them back up in the evening.
Also, another good tip is that two fans, one to suck in cool air and one fan to expel hot air, can be just as effective as an air conditioner unit, particularly in the early days of a heat wave. This tip will save a tremendous amount of energy.
