Ways to Save Electricity

Turn off your computer to save on your electric bill.

Ensuring that your computer is turned off when not in use can save anywhere between $55 and $75 per computer per year. This is according to official estimates from the Energy Department.

Apply this to the federal government, at an average savings of $50 per computer, applying this technique or power management tools to the government’s 5.6 million laptops and desktops could generate annual savings of $280 million.

Although many computers do have automated, or programmable features that can power down a computer after it’s been inactive for an extended period, most people and companies do not use those options. And failure to do this translates into wasted energy and unnecessarily higher electricity bills.
