Ways to Save Electricity

South Carolina Proposal for Energy Star Rebates and Tax Savings

Here is the information from a bill by Senator Glenn McConnell (R-Charleston) eliminates state sales tax and provides a $750 tax refund, along with energy star rebates, for the purchase of ENERGY STAR certified manufactured homes and appliances through 2019. It also provides residents a sales tax holiday annually during the month of October for the purchase of certain ENERGY STAR electricity saving products. Purchasing Energy star products are one of the most effective ways to save electricity, and tax holidays are being established by numerous states to encourage this.

A bill by Representative Phil Lowe (R-Florence) establishes energy efficiency goals for state agencies. The target is a 20% reduction in electricity and energy consumption by 2020. It will also establish a wind study committee to determine the feasibility of erecting wind mills and farms throughout South Carolina. The study committee will be reporting its recommendations and findings to the General Assembly on January 1, 2010.
