Customers of Centex Corp. (CTX) have been putting a lot of energy into getting the home builder to deliver energy-efficient saving homes.
Due to this very high, and growing, customer demand, the Dallas based company will implement its Centex Energy Advantage energy saving and efficiency programs in all of its homes nationwide beginning Jan. 1, 2009.
Centex showed how its Energy Advantage homes are up to 40% more energy efficient than comparable homes. Various studies have shown that the energy monitor produces between 4% and 15% in energy savings and lower electric bills by giving real-time feedback on energy usage and therefore encouraging electricity conservation.
Centex said this program is a great way to save energy, and it is the most significant and comprehensive energy- efficiency package among the big national builders. Although some in the industry have pointed to green building programs like this as a way to boost sales in a flagging market, Traylor, from Centex, said that didn't directly motivate this move, but it is more important to show customers how to save electricity.
